Southern Pacific SD44R 7399 idles at West Oakland, CA in a new experimental Daylight-inspired paint scheme the morning after it was released from the Sacramento Shops on November 11, 1981. It had been moved to West Oakland overnight so that SP executives in San Francisco at 1 Market Street could come over and inspect the new paint scheme. SPs West Oakland facility was a hard target and of course, the surrounding neighborhood was a real garden spot as well. Still, with a Daylight SD44R and the fog burning off, it had to be done. Somehow we managed to take photos.  Trying to recall how I got out of High School this particular Wednesday in 1981 to shoot this, I believe it was the Veterans Day holiday. Great timing. Kodachrome KR 64.
